The high altitude, combined with the mountain goats meager diet and inherent genetics, enable it to grow a coat of wool which is among the finest and warmest on earth. The animal is not harmed in this process, the hairs being removed through combing; but only small amounts can be obtained, as little as five ounces from one animal in one year. A single shawl can take the wool from five to six goats. Wrap yourself in pashmina scarf and you will never want to take it off.
